Rugby Sevens

The HSBC Sevens Series consist of 10 tournaments around the world. In this series national teams of seven players compete for series points at each round. At the end of the season an overall champion is crowned based upon accumulated series points.

Rugby Sevens

At the end of the season, country teams play the Rugby Sevens tournament in stadiums around the world. The locations are Dubai, South Africa, New Zealand, United States, Hong Kong, Singapore, France and England. In the Rugby Sevens, the teams play with seven players. Speed and maneuverability are important and the matches provide space for many beautiful actions and spectacle.

Dubai: The Sevens Stadium
The Sevens Stadium in Dubai opened in 2008 and is one of the playing venues of the Rugby Sevens. An impressive open-air stadium with four stands that can seat a total of 44,000 spectators.

Hamilton: FMG Stadium Waikato
The FMG Stadium Waikato is located in Hamilton, on the island of Waikato in New Zealand. This stadium can accommodate 25,800 people, but can be expanded with 5,000 extra seats. Normally, The Chiefs and The Waikato Rugby Union play their matches on this ground.

Vancouver: BC Place Stadium
The BC Place Stadium in Vancouver is a huge stadium with a capacity of 59,841 spectators. The stadium is covered with a roof. Normally it’s used by the Canadian football club British Columbia Lions and the football club Vancouver Whitecaps.

Singapore: National Stadium
The new National Stadium opened in Singapore in 2014. This multifunctional stadium is suitable for rugby, football, cricket and athletics. The stadium has the world's largest retractable dome roof and the grandstands can be adapted for various sporting events. The capacity for rugby matches is 55,000 spectators.

Capetown: The Cape Town Stadium
Cape Town Stadium is located in the middle of a park near the center of Cape Town. The stadium was opened in 2009 and used for the World Cup football in 2010. The facilities are super modern, including 12 lifts, 120 wheelchair spaces, TV studios and luxury sky boxes. The maximum number of spectators is 55,000.

Sydney: Allianz Stadium
The old Sydney Football Stadium has been demolished and will be replaced by a new one, which will be finished in 2022 and will be called Allianz Stadium. The New South Wales Waratahs and the Sydney Roosters rugby teams will play their matches at this stadium, as will Sydney FC football club. The expected capacity is between 40,000 and 45,000 spectators.

Hong Kong: Hong Kong Stadium
Hong Kong's main stadium has hosted the Rugby World Cup Sevens twice, in 1997 and 2005. Hong Kong Stadium is on the site of the old Government Stadium, which was rebuilt and reopened in the mid-1990s. The stadium can seat 40,000 fans.

Paris: Stade Jean-Bouin
The Stade Jean-Bouin in Paris opened in 1925 and is used by the Red Star FC football club and a venue for rugby matches. In 2024, this stadium in Paris will be one of the locations of rugby at the Summer Olympics. The stadium has expanded over the years to a capacity of 20,000 spectators.
